Volunteer Recognition Week: A Commitment That Changes Lives

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

A Week Celebrating Little Brothers Volunteers

From May 25 to 31, Little Brothers marked Volunteer Recognition Week across 12 regions of Quebec. Through this initiative, the organization highlighted the essential role volunteers play at the very heart of its mission: breaking the isolation experienced by older adults.

Through their steady presence, attentive listening, and genuine commitment, volunteers build meaningful and lasting relationships with the Great Friends. Their dedication helps improve well-being, foster a stronger sense of belonging, and, more broadly, build a more compassionate and connected community.

Volunteering with Little Brothers means:

  • Strengthening the social fabric
  • Supporting the well-being of older adults
  • Nurturing your own well-being by building authentic relationships with seniors in your community
  • Creating a tangible and lasting impact

Recognition Activities Across 12 Regions of Quebec

Teams across the province organized a wide range of activities to celebrate and thank volunteers for their remarkable commitment. Each initiative shone a light on the unique contributions volunteers make every day.

In Montreal, for example, several activities — including happy hour gatherings between teams — created opportunities for connection and appreciation while highlighting the central role volunteers play in supporting seniors.

In Granby, the atmosphere was just as festive. A happy hour event celebrated the dedication of many volunteers, especially those marking two years of service — a wonderful opportunity to recognize these important milestones.

In the Lower Laurentians region, 32 participants gathered on May 28 at Domaine Juliette-Huot for a warm and friendly appreciation event. Filled with meaningful conversations and shared moments, the gathering helped strengthen bonds while expressing sincere gratitude.

In the same spirit, 22 volunteers from the Saint-Jérôme team came together at the Domaine for a unifying activity that reinforced the team’s sense of belonging and community.

In Sherbrooke, enthusiasm exceeded all expectations. The recognition evening brought together 58 volunteers at Baobab Café — a record turnout for the team. Due to the overwhelming response, the event had to be moved to a larger venue to welcome everyone. Heartfelt tributes were paid to volunteers celebrating 2, 5, 10, 15, and even 30 years of commitment, in an atmosphere that was both warm and festive.

Meanwhile, the Laval region highlighted several especially inspiring volunteer journeys, including Jocelyne and Chantal, who were both celebrating 10 years of continuous involvement.

Volunteering at the Heart of Little Brothers’ Mission

Volunteer recognition week activities are a powerful reminder of how essential each volunteer is to pursue Little Brothers’ mission. Every gesture, visit, and phone call helps break the social isolation experienced by the older adults we support.

It is this spirit of generosity, compassion, and consistency that creates meaningful human connections every day. Thanks to these volunteers, smiles emerge, and lives are brightened.

To all those who give their time and heart to Little Brothers: thank you.
