Sometimes, a simple phone call is enough to brighten someone’s day and bring comfort. With this in mind, Little Brothers and Cégep de Victoriaville have joined forces to launch an innovative and compassionate initiative: a telephone listening center where Social Work students connect with isolated seniors. This project fosters exchange and listening while providing valuable support to our Great Friends.
For eight weeks, from February 17 to April 17, 2025, nearly 48 students will take turns calling the Great Friends of our organization on a regular basis. This enriching program benefits both students and seniors by focusing on sharing, listening, and kindness.
“Talking to bright young people feels so good!”
Behind these calls are stories, emotions, and precious moments. Ms. Ginette, a Great Friend, received her first call with surprise and joy:
“I know it’s only for eight weeks, but I will cherish every call! I got to talk about poetry, music, politics… Talking to such bright young people feels so good!”
For Ms. Marthe, who faces challenging days due to her health, these calls are a ray of happiness:
“I always enjoy meeting new people and talking to young ones. The student I spoke to was very kind, and I had a great time.”
These long-distance encounters break isolation, bring smiles, and warm hearts—both for seniors and young people alike.
A Meaningful Project for All Generations
Beyond the academic framework, this telephone listening center is a true intergenerational bridge. Great Friends feel heard and valued, while young students gain awareness of the richness and importance of human connection.
Andréa Bousquet, Team Coordinator at Little Brothers, sees the concrete impact:
“Our Great Friends appreciate these calls because they break their isolation and give them a sense of being useful to the students. They still have so much to offer to society, and that makes them feel good.”
What if you changed a life, one call at a time?
This project aligns with the deep mission of Little Brothers: to offer isolated seniors a network of kindness and support. What if you, too, made a difference?
Become a volunteer and help create these valuable connections. A simple call can change everything.
