The Gilford Street Boutique, 45 years of commitment in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal

A unique place

Since it opened in the fall of 1979, the Little Brothers charity Boutique on Gilford Street has been part of the tight-knit Plateau Mont-Royal community. Over the years, it has become a meeting place where bonds are forged and neighborhood life flourishes, while supporting the most vulnerable.

A social and circular economy model

For 45 years now, the Gilford Street boutique has been giving new life to objects, offering affordable goods and limiting waste. It values volunteer involvement and offers free items and clothing to the seniors we support.

And it’s all for a good cause, as all proceeds go to the Little Brothers Foundation to support its work and help break the isolation of Quebec’s seniors.

Making a positive impact in the community

On average each year, these are :

  • 15,000 bags of second-hand clothing and accessories are received, representing nearly 312 tons.
  • 45 to 60 volunteers give an average of 4 hours a week to sort, recycle and market the donations received.
  • 441,407 donated in 2024 to support the cause of isolated seniors.

An evening of celebration

On October 17, volunteers, employees and partners of the Little Brothers Boutique on Gilford Street gathered to celebrate the Boutique’s 45th anniversary. It was an opportunity to highlight our deep roots in the Plateau community, and to thank all those who have contributed to our success. Partners, collaborators, volunteers and friends of the Boutique: each plays a fundamental role in this chain of solidarity.

Pierre, who has been volunteering as a cashier at the Boutique for almost ten years, gave us a moving testimonial on the benefits of volunteering, underlining the pleasure he finds in it:

”The opportunity, every week, to give life to human values and qualities that are dear to me: participation, mutual aid, sharing, belonging, giving and self-realization.”

Thank you to our invaluable partners for their participation in the evening and their commitment to our cause:
