How to contribute to responsible consumption
In March, the clothing detox challenge invites you to think about the way you consume clothes, and to adopt good habits such as repairing and transforming your clothes or arranging them differently. You can even buy second-hand and donate clothes you no longer wear to a charity.
Because sorting is also good for the mind, we invite you to do it regularly all year long!
Here are three steps to make your job easier:
- Get everything out of your cupboards: making an inventory of what you have on hand is the best way to motivate yourself to sort.
- Take the time to take each item of clothing or accessory and analyze whether it brings you joy: if the answer is no, it’s time to part with it.
- Take action: once you’ve decided to part with an item, decide whether you want to donate it or recycle it, and proceed immediately.
Your donations go a long way
In the Little Brothers Boutiques, an average of 15,000 bags of second-hand clothing and accessories are received each year, representing nearly 312 tons.
Behind each donation is the commitment of the Little Brothers volunteers. Some twenty people offer up to 100 hours a week to sort and recycle the items we receive from the public.
In addition, the Little Brothers Boutiques enable our Big Friends in the Montreal area to get free clothing and equipment to meet their needs. And 100% of the funds raised are donated to the the Little Brothers Foundation, to support its work and break the isolation of seniors in Quebec.
Buying second-hand in our stores has many advantages
By shopping at the Little Brothers Boutiques, you contribute to make a difference by:
- Supporting the Little Brothers’ mission across Quebec with the Boutiques profits;
- Creating a sense of belonging for seniors who come to the shop;
- Valuing the volunteer commitment and participation of those involved;
- Offering affordable goods to the Boutiques’ customers;
- Offering free items and clothing to seniors supported by Little Brothers;
- Giving new life to second hand objects;
- Reducing waste.
So donating materials and shopping in our two boutiques are a great way for you to help make a difference in your community.
