Some volunteers stand out through their steady commitment, their humanity, and their reassuring presence. Nicole is one of those whose constancy and gentleness leave a lasting mark on the hearts of Great Friends.
A Presence That Spans the Years
A volunteer for many years, 78-year-old Nicole never counts the hours she gives. For more than eight years, she has been paired with Ms. Prudentienne Beaulieu Marsan. She visits her twice a month, accompanies her to see her husband, calls her several times a week… and above all, she is there — attentive, caring, and faithful.
But Nicole’s dedication doesn’t stop there. She gets involved in all kinds of activities that make a real difference: she helps with the phone-a-thon to stay connected with donors, assists in organizing events for Great Friends, lends a hand during major celebrations or at Oka retreats.
She also supports new volunteers, offering them a listening ear and thoughtful advice, and helps assess applications from future Great Friends to understand their needs. In short, Nicole is always where she’s needed, generous and smiling.
A Pillar for the Team
Nicole is also a solid support for coordinators and fellow volunteers. She shares her experience with kindness and helps everyone take a step back.
“Nicole’s years of experience allow new volunteers to better understand situations. She helps us see more clearly, to understand better — with heart and calm,”
notes Aurélie, who coordinated her for many years.
Always open to change, Nicole has even embraced shared online documents — something she jokes about:
“It’s not really my cup of tea, but I adapt… and I tease the team about it!”
Nicole is one of those people who, wherever they are, bring a sense of calm and trust. With her, you feel at home.
She doesn’t just visit; she steps into the lives of Great Friends — and stays. With respect, tenderness, and constancy.
“I’d like to continue my mission for a long time,” she confides, “because what I experience with the Great Friends is precious and full of light.”
Thinking of Volunteering?
Nicole would tell you:
“Commit fully. Offer your presence, your listening, your affection. And what you receive in return… it can’t be explained. It has to be lived.”
Do you have a few hours? A listening ear? The desire to build real human connections?
You’re already the person we need.
