At Little Brothers, every volunteer adds a unique color to our mission. Today, we’d like to spotlight Josette, an exceptional volunteer who, though she didn’t win the Juliette-Huot Award this year, perfectly embodies the spirit of support and kindness.
A Life-Changing Encounter
Since December 2020, Josette has generously given her time and support to our Great Friends. With natural ease, she builds meaningful relationships, especially with those facing more complex challenges. Her involvement goes beyond friendly visits—she is a comforting presence, a guiding light, a loyal friend.
Every Wednesday afternoon, she visits Great Friends living with mental health issues. With infinite patience, she brings back their smiles through engaging activities and her gentle presence. “I’ve found my place here. I bring joy, lots of affection, and humor,” she says, emotionally.
Support Until the Final Breath
What sets Josette apart is her unwavering commitment, even in the most difficult moments. She has accompanied several Great Friends through their final days, offering them comfort and dignity. She fondly recalls her last moment with Madame Carole:
“I whispered to her, ‘You see, I don’t care if you didn’t want to see me. I promised you I’d always be here for you and hold your hand until you were ready to go.’ Safe journey, dear Carole.”
Her ability to be present without judgment and to stand by others through pain makes her an outstanding volunteer. She doesn’t just show up—she brings comfort, dignity, and warmth to every moment.
A Role Model for the Community
Josette’s impact goes beyond her personal involvement. She mentors new volunteers, especially those supporting Great Friends with complex needs.
Her impact can be seen in the smiles she sparks, the bonds she builds, and the warmth she brings to those who need it most.

Josette reminds us that volunteering is a gift—both for those who receive it and for those who give it. She says it best: “Every volunteer has strengths; you just have to share them with heart and compassion.”
