At Little Brothers, every volunteer brings their own unique energy and passion to our mission of supporting isolated older adults. Among them, Gabriela beautifully embodies the generosity and deep commitment that truly change lives.
Recently nominated for the Hubert-De-Ravinel Award, which honors the outstanding dedication of young volunteers, Gabriela shines through her involvement. Though she didn’t take home the trophy, she has already won the admiration and gratitude of many Great Friends.
A Commitment That Builds Unbreakable Bonds
Since April 2023, Gabriela has been a radiant presence in our Montréal community. Paired with a Great Friend living in a long-term care home, she consistently offers kindness and companionship to brighten his daily life. But her volunteering doesn’t stop there—she actively participates in celebrations, picnics, coffee gatherings, and more. Whenever there’s an opportunity to share and support, Gabriela is there.
Her team coordinator, Émilie Potvin, speaks of her with admiration:
“Her positive energy and the light she brings when she walks into a room are a balm for the Great Friends. She has this magical ability to create connections, no matter who is in front of her. It’s incredible to witness!”
An Inspiring and Inspired Young Woman
Gabriela joined Little Brothers to give her time to those in need, but she quickly realized she was receiving just as much in return. “We think we volunteer to help others, but in reality, we learn so much and receive just as much as we give.” For her, volunteering is a deeply moving human experience, where every interaction becomes a life lesson.
Her dedication and enthusiasm make her a role model for young volunteers and an inspiration for long-time supporters. Always ready to help, she embodies the spirit of collaboration and innovation. She is already thinking ahead, considering the creation of a Spanish-speaking volunteer group within the organization.
