A Compassionate Easter: Let’s Break the Isolation of Seniors in Québec

While many will gather around a table this Easter weekend, thousands of older adults will experience this time in a silence that feels all too familiar. For them, Easter doesn’t always mean celebration—it can also mean solitude.

From April 17 to 21, Little Brothers, with the support of nearly 3,000 dedicated volunteers, will be active in 12 regions across Québec, offering joy and comfort to over 2,700 Great Friends. Through community meals, kindhearted visits, and heartfelt conversations, the organization aims to break the isolation that still affects far too many older people.

When Solidarity Becomes Human Connection

These Easter gatherings are more than events. They are precious moments—sometimes among the only ones spent in the company of others throughout the year. Alongside Christmas celebrations, the Easter brunch is a deeply meaningful tradition, a true breath of warmth and togetherness.

Mrs Ricard, a Great Friend supported by Little Brothers, shares:
“I instantly connected with what the organization offers and the spirit behind it. I first joined during an Easter meal and noticed the genuine kindness among people. We’re always so warmly welcomed!”

A Pressing Social Issue

The social isolation of seniors is a serious societal challenge. According to the INSPQ, more than one in three older adults living alone feel they lack adequate social support. Statistics Canada also reports that 43% of isolated seniors are at increased risk of psychological distress.

In light of this concerning reality, Little Brothers reminds us of the importance of building lasting, respectful, and compassionate relationships with older people.

A Mission Rooted in Human Values

For over 60 years, Little Brothers has been supporting isolated seniors through to the end of life. These deep and lasting bonds of friendship are grounded in a powerful vision: to offer every older person a chosen family filled with love and care.

Throughout the year, thousands of volunteers call, visit, celebrate, and listen to our Great Friends with unwavering dedication.
