In 2022, Little Brothers celebrated 60 years of volunteer work with isolated seniors in Quebec. 60 years of stories told over a cup of coffee, a cup of tea, cookies, pink paparmanes, the scents of geranium, violets and musk, memories shared on a swing, on the edge of a hospital bed or a CHSLD, hours spent together, gossiping about everything and nothing, moments of silence too, but above all, a presence to fill the boredom.
This gentle pairing of a volunteer and the Big Friends of Petits Frères draws a link to put an end to the loneliness of old age. Through a series of portraits, we wish to highlight the commitment and benevolence of our volunteers; to emphasize their self-giving, to express our gratitude for their generosity, to give space to pay tribute to them, but above all, to enrich the world with their beautiful stories.
Each month, you’ll be able to discover the portrait of a volunteer who is committed to reducing the social isolation of those who, just yesterday, helped to clear the way for the procession of our busy lives today and allow us to believe in tomorrow.
What if we were to take inspiration from them, roll up our sleeves and put our hands in each other’s hands, linking us together to build a better world, to unite age and experience, wisdom and good advice, and thus bridge the gap between isolation and the hope of a visit.
Thank you for being one of the indispensable links in this great chain of solidarity across Quebec. Thanks to you, solitude can be experienced in small suspension points…
